Standard Passport Advantage Agreement

End-users typically acquire their IBM licenses and services in exchange for a so-called “Passport Advantage” (PA) agreement, and this could be the case for you if you use IBM software. But do you have a clear understanding of what is at stake in this agreement? Do you understand its effects? Do you understand what you need to know to effectively manage your software licenses? In general, you`ll find the information you need to manage your IBM compliance position in different locations, so you know what other sources of information should be considered? Randy is our software license compliance analyst. He specializes in IBM software and the IBM License Metric Tool. He brings extensive technical experience to his former role in IBM Cloud Lab Services, where he designed and implemented cloud solutions. This allows it to understand the technical and financial impact of a software licensing agreement and help customers retain control of their licensing services. And if you registered in the same way, these three agreements also apply: on July 18, 2011, IBM updated its standard International IBM PassPort Advantage Agreement (IPAA). There have been two major changes to the agreement, which was updated a year ago, which is often overlooked by IBM Enterprise customers. In this article, we want to highlight these changes and provide things that can help you manage your IBM environment more efficiently – while keeping a close eye on the terms of the agreement. The main benefit would be to reduce the risk of non-compliance and better control its annual maintenance requirements and software costs in the future.

Depending on the size and duration of the transaction, registering as an IBM customer can reduce costs because you can benefit from quantity discounts. Other differences between regular and express versions can be find here. The fact that you are no longer required to sign a separate sub-capacity agreement may mean that you no longer have to manage multiple contracts or addendums. However, it does not necessarily reduce the confusion that often surrounds this offer. The current IPAA assumes that every IBM customer who installs PVU-based software fully understands that they must install one of the approved tools (ILMT or TADd) and manage the reports for 2 years. Since the new IAPA is a passive agreement (in most cases, no signature is required), there are still a number of IBM customers who do not realize that they have contractually agreed to the conditions stipulated with respect to under capacity. In short, most IBM customers virtualize their environments to some extent. IBM PassPort`s latest ADVantage agreement, dated 2011, allows its customers to license virtualized use only if they prefer. However, you must install ILMT or TADD and manage the tool, run quarterly reports and submit them to IBM`s request.

The contract specifically requires the installation and management of the tool only for virtualized use. Since the recent agreement also requires a customer to maintain the subscription and support for “all or nothing” of their software, the key will be to show how many licenses are being actively used. The full availability of agents in your environment helps you get the data you need to help make a decision about coverage degradation. It can also help you predict and better manage all of your PVU-based licensing and maintenance requirements.
